Jungle Elephant Trekking Thailand

Jungle Elephant Trekking and Show Thailand

Elephants are the largest living land mammals on Earth. Thai history is rich in elephant lore and this venerable beast and plays a major role in Thai culture. Ancient Siam (Thailand) was constantly at war and in warfare of that day elephants had a tactical importance similar to that of tanks today.

The major attraction for many tourists in Koh Phangan is the herd of wild Asian elephants that live in the Elephant Camp near Baan Tai village on the way to Thong Nai Pan. They number 5 in total. One was born last year (2009)  The elephants have been sighted in many parts of the park, and are most active in the mornings and at day-time. This is one of the best opportunities for wild elephant trekking in Thailand.

Elephant Trekking in Thailand:

Trekking on elephant back is a unique experience here in the rainforest; you will be taken in amongst beautiful limestone Karst Mountains to experience the differing ecological niches in this part of the world. Birds fly overhead and the diversity of the rainforest waits hidden in the depths, what better way is there to get a bird’s eye view of nature.

Elephants are saddled and can carry up to two or three passengers depending on size. Of course, all elephants should be accompanied by a trained elephant handler throughout the duration of your ride.
